Government includes aviation to new greenhouse gas emissions targets

Following pressure from environmental campaigners, the Government have amended the Climate Change Bill to include aviation and shipping in an ambitious push to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The Bill sets a target to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050. It had its third reading in the House of Commons this week, which was passed with an overwhelming majority of 463 votes to three.
The Bill will mean that all future governments will be legally committed to reducing UK carbon emissions, and report on their progress every five years, starting in December.
It will also require medium-sized British companies to report on their own carbon emissions, a service that co2balance have been offering organisations for many years as part of managing their
carbon footprint.‹ Back to Latest News Page
